International and Regional Corruption-related Surveys & Rankings

Singapore has been ranked consistently among the least corrupt nations in various international surveys and studies conducted. The low corruption rate is due mainly to the political will to fight corruption, the strong anti-corruption laws and an effective anti-corruption agency that is given a free hand to act against the corrupt.

Some of the more prominent international/regional corruption rankings in which Singapore has been featured include:
  1. The annual Corruption Perception Index (CPI) published by the Transparency International, which is based in Berlin; and

  2. The Asian Intelligence Newsletter by the Hong-Kong based Political & Economic Risk Consultancy (PERC).

Corruption control is also increasingly being viewed as an integral part of good governance and an important factor in determining a country's economic competitiveness. Some of the governance related and economic competitiveness reports where matters pertaining to corruption were surveyed and taken into consideration are:
  1. The bi-annual "Governance Matters" report published by the New York based World Bank Institute, the official research arm of the World Bank;

  2. Global Competitiveness Report published by the World Economic Forum;

  3. World Competitiveness Yearbook published by the renowned Switzerland based International Institute for Management Development.
